Catfish (2010)

After seeing the trailer for Catfish I had high hopes for this movie. I had a picture in my mind that this was going to be a semi-fictional thriller about a guy who meets a girl on the internet and she turns out not to be what she said she was, I thought there would be a psycho killer or atleast something suspensful in this movie, but I was gravely disappointed.

After the shock of being so disappointed, the movie sucked me in and it turned out to be a emotionally satisfying movie. Everyone of us have a desire to be someone else, atleast for a day, but on the internet, there are people who take it way too far.

I guess I would recommend this to people who wish to see a emotionally touching movie, but I wouldn't call this a thriller, as it is being classified on IMDb and almost every other site. This was nowhere near a thriller.

Trailer Update 1

The Thing (1982)

I just finished watching this John Carpenter masterpiece from 1982. I remember renting this movie when I was a kid, I snuck under a blanket, turned the lights off and watched in awe. The Thing left me with nightmares back then and I gotta say, it didn't leave me with happy thoughts this time around either.

The Thing is about a group of American researchers who work at Antarctica. They uncover that a nearby Norwegian research station was invaded by a mysterious Thing from outerspace. From there, the movie builds up suspence nearly every second of its runtime.

What I loved about The Thing was the atmosphere which was intense. At the middle of the movie, when everyone starts to suspect each other of being The Thing, you yourself start to question the characters. Has R.J. been changed? Was Copper really one of them?

This movie is for those who love horror/scifi at it's finest. If you enjoy horror of being a bit slow paced, more about the atmosphere this is a movie for you. People who enjoy Scream or other slashers, should stay away from this, although, if you want to broaden your horizon, you should rent this immediately.
